Thornhill

Thornhill is one of the Greater Toronto Area’s most historically rich communities – originally founded in 1794. Now a modern suburb, it’s not hard to see why so many residents of all ages and backgrounds love living here.

As a community, Thornhill is made up of five separate neighbourhoods. Starting in Thornhill’s northwestern corner, Beverley Glen is wrapped by Highway 407 to the west and north, Bathurst Street to the east and Centre Street to the south. Just below this neighbourhood is Brownridge, which stretches almost all the way south to Steeles Avenue.

On the east side of Bathurst Street, is the laid-back suburb of Uplands, which is just north of Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill, a dynamic, and predominantly Jewish neighbourhood. Last but not least, Glen Shields is a smaller, older enclave on the west end of Thornill.

Why We Love Thornhill

One of the most unique characteristics of Thornhill is that it’s located across two separate municipalities – Vaughan and Markham. Not only does this give local residents access to the best of both worlds when it comes to essential amenities, connectivity, schools and more, but it also creates a rich and diverse community tapestry.

Thornhill is one of the top communities in the entire GTA when it comes to parks, green spaces, and outdoor recreation. Hefhill Park, Marita Payne Park, and York Hill District Park make for great places to unwind and enjoy some fresh air. There’s also Thornhill Park Tennis Club, Uplands Golf & Ski Club, Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto, and The Thornhill Club, for fans of outdoor sports.

Thornhill is also just a short distance away from Vaughan’s top attractions like Canada’s Wonderland, Vaughan Mills, and the Black Creek Pioneer Village – adding a splash of excitement to everyday life.

Who Lives in Thornhill?

With close to 115,000 residents, Thornhill is home to a diverse and dynamic community of neighbours. That said, as a primarily suburban area, Thornhill is arguably most attractive for families. This is thanks to neighbourhoods like Brownridge and Glen Shields’ quiet ambience, exceptional schools, and family-friendly housing stock.

In addition to families, there are plenty of young professionals and retirees who call the community home too – particularly in Beverley Glen and Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill where the varied housing stock includes plenty of more compact options such as high-rise condos and functional townhomes.

As one of Vaughan and Thornhill’s predominant luxury-minded neighbourhoods, Uplands is known for its large properties, private ambience, and proximity to golf and ski clubs.
